Ultima / Nordic Music Days

Oslo will be buzzing with new music in September this year as Nordic Music Days hooks up with Ultima. Nordic Affect’s Halla Steinunn is one of the performers that will head to Oslo as INNI, written for baroque violin and electronics by Þuríður Jónsdóttir was chosen by the Nordic Music Days jury as one of this year’s festivals selections. INNI was written for Halla and received premiere at Dark Music Days 2013. It’ll be released on an album later this year but now there’s a possibility to catch it live in Oslo in the autumn.

Library of Water

Nordic Affect will be heading to Roni Horn’s Library of Water tomorrow to perform the concert ‘Flow’. The event is part of Reykjavík Arts Festival and presented in association with Artangel.

NoA and the spring mixtape

Recently Nordic Affect was selected for I care if you listen’s spring mixtape. The recording in question is from our last album, namely Gigue from Handelusive by Hugi Guðmundsson. We would like to send big thanks to Thomas Deneuville and ‘I care if you listen’ and last but not least; we’re in excellent company on the mixtape and would love it if you checked it out!

Thank you Kraumur!

Just earlier this week Kraumur music fund awarded us with a generous grant in support of our concert trip abroad this autumn. It’s indeed the very same foundation that sponsored our Abel album a few years back which is something we’ll always be thankful for. And so; we’re looking very much forward to hitting the road in Europe later this year and of course hope to see you!

Åland Islands here we come!

Nordic Affect is about to head to the Åland Islands where we’ll make an appearance this coming Saturday in the beautiful medieval Hammarlands church. The concert is organized by the Nordic Institue on Åland and the program will feature a mix of contemporary and baroque gems by Telemann, María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Handel, Hugi Guðmundsson, Anna Þorvaldsdóttir and Leclair. Concert starts at 19.00 and we’re very much looking forward to meeting the audience in  Åland!

Performer of the year!

Nordic Affect was honored as Performer of the year in classical and contemporary music at Iceland Music Award. We’re deeply grateful and happy to receive this award and at the same time would like to congratulate Iceland Music Awards on having turned 20 last Friday. So what can we say; we had a blast last year, performing at contemporary, baroque and rock festivals, with some fantastic collaborators, ranging from marvellous and talented musicians to composers and visual artists and we’re looking forward to continuing the music making in 2015! And of course we hope to see you under a musical star!

2 circles

The week-end in Reykjavík was a fruitful one as we went into studio and recorded the work ’2 circles’ by Hildur Guðnadóttir. But that’s not all; we’ll soon head into studio again to record ‘Clockworking’ by María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir. That session will round off our recording for our new album, so there are fun CD times ahead! Happy greetings from Reykjavík!
